In Short:
- If Assassin’s Creed and stories of revenge are your thing, we’ve got some great news coming your way
- The next Assassin’s Creed title, Hexe, looks like it will revolve around a revenge plot set in the witch trial era
- Fans are already tired of hearing about revenge plots in the franchise, and it’s easy to see why
Assassin’s Creed Hexe probably won’t drop until 2027, but we’ve got the first look at the story, and it’s one you’ve likely seen before.
Assassin's Creed Hexe will have a dark, haunting tone. It starts with Elsa seeking revenge for her mother, who was executed as a witch during the witch trials.#AssassinsCreed pic.twitter.com/zqJrNEDSIq

On Twitter, Ubisoft partner BunnyTheVillain shared that Hexe will have a dark and haunting mood, with Elsa as the protagonist, driven by revenge for her mother’s witch trial execution.
Insider Gaming shared in 2024 that Elsa would be the lead and have supernatural powers. That fits with the witch trials angle. Yet, the idea of another revenge plot has fans rolling their eyes, before the game even releases.
No Assassin’s Creed Game Is Complete Without a Revenge Plot
One Reddit user quipped, “Another Assassin’s Creed starting with a dead family? Bold move.” Fans aren’t shocked. From Ezio’s journey to Naoe’s, revenge has always been the main fuel. At this point, it’s starting to wear thin.
“So, probably 12 Order members to kill, each one teased by a clue — all in the name of revenge,” one user summarized with sarcasm. Someone else nailed the pattern: “Ubisoft does revenge stories like Bethesda does prison intros.” Harsh, but fair.
Thankfully, Black Flag’s remake might give us a short break from the endless vengeance plots.
