In Short:
- Capcom revealed Resident Evil: Requiem at Summer Game Fest, showcasing newcomer Grace Ashcroft in its first trailer.
- Despite Grace’s apparent story relevance, insider Dusk Golem reaffirmed that Leon is the central figure and will be played “far more” than Grace
- Resident Evil: Requiem reportedly shifts focus away from Raccoon City, which is said to be a secondary location visited periodically
Resident Evil: Requiem: Capcom, after a series of vague teases, finally confirmed Resident Evil: Requiem as the next mainline game during Summer Game Fest. Though insider Dusk Golem had previously revealed Leon Kennedy would be the protagonist, the trailer seemed to cast doubt on that.
Grace Ashcroft, introduced as the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak, takes center stage in the trailer. A mysterious character, probably the antagonist, refers to her as “the special one” and “the one I’ve been searching for.”
<>Grace Ashcroft Takes Back Seat as Resident Evil Requiem Prioritizes Leon Kennedy
blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">I'll say this now before my trailer breakdown: Leon is the main character of RE9 Requiem. You won't fully see him for a bit (though he is in the trailer), but in the final game you play far more as Leon than Grace. Become more obvious as marketing continues, into the final game.

Even with the trailer’s focus on Grace, insider Dusk Golem remains confident that Leon Kennedy is the game’s lead, saying he’ll be playable “far more” than Grace Ashcroft. They also allege Leon is hidden in the trailer and believe his role will be emphasized more in future reveals.
Dusk Golem also addressed confusion stemming from the Requiem trailer, responding to a tweet about Raccoon City’s return by clarifying it’s not the main setting—just a location players will pass through during the game.
This leaves one big question: where will Resident Evil: Requiem take place? It might go the expansive route like RE6. Dusk Golem has suggested it won’t follow recent gameplay trends or the remake formula, calling it a “big reinvention.” Hopefully, more answers will come as the year progresses.
