Though Death Stranding 2 champions the idea of long, meaningful travel, players looking to avoid repeat treks will be happy to know Fast Travel exists. It’s not the most intuitive system, but it’s perfect for avoiding unnecessary backtracking during side quests or second runs.
Access to fast travel in Death Stranding 2 is tied to your story progress—it won’t be available the moment Sam starts exploring. You’ll first need to understand the core gameplay and establish important infrastructure. The sections below explain when fast travel unlocks and what constraints it comes with during your journey.
How To Unlock Fast Travel In Death Stranding 2
In Death Stranding 2, players must once again endure long treks and harsh environments early in the game. Fast travel becomes accessible only after completing Order No. 12, a main story mission that tends to unlock roughly ten hours into the campaign.
Sam’s mission to explore a newly tar-covered region in Australia uncovers major narrative developments, both for his character and the crumbling world he’s determined to piece back together.
Once the mission wraps up with a boss fight and a few key story scenes, the DHV Magellan becomes accessible as a Fast Travel hub. Players can then instantly revisit any chiral-network-connected location in Mexico or Australia, streamlining the completion of postponed deliveries or side objectives.
How To Use Fast Travel In Death Stranding 2
Using fast travel is simple once unlocked: stand inside the DHV Magellan, press the Options button to open your map, then hold X until the destination list appears.
This feature lets you warp to explored, chiral-connected areas—avoiding tedious walking and extending the life of Sam’s footwear and stamina bar.
Unlike its predecessor, Death Stranding 2 limits fast travel to sites connected via the Chiral Network. While this adds some structure, the system still offers flexibility—Sam can transport his entire inventory during travel.
As more of the map is linked and the main narrative unfolds, new destinations unlock, making it easier to revisit previous zones and complete outstanding objectives or collect extra Likes.
Fast Travel Through Transponders
Beach Jumps serve as a secondary fast travel feature, accessible once players build transponder-based structures. Unlike the DHV Magellan.
It basically allows for full cargo and vehicle transport, this method only teleports Sam, with all equipment left behind at the departure point for later use.
