Dune: Awakening Tweaks: Dune: Awakening launched to strong numbers, topping out near 200,000 concurrent players, and has largely been well-received.
Its endgame area, the Deep Desert, has sparked controversy, with players criticizing it as empty and dominated by “no-life campers.”
The feedback may be tough, but it’s not without merit. PvP in the Deep Desert allows for total freedom, yet players say it usually comes down to which Ornithopter wins.

The Dune: Awakening developers, as per the latest Reddit AMA held by PC Gamer, discussed player feedback on PvP mechanics.
Director Viljar Sommerbakk shared three goals moving forward: allowing more strategic vehicle choices, making PvP smoother and easier to grasp, and resolving frustrating technical problems like movement desync and rubber banding.
Here’s the tough pill: despite community pushback, Funcom has no intention of adding ground-only combat zones to Dune: Awakening‘s Deep Desert , Joel Bylos confirmed it’s “not the plan.”
That said, the team admits the current combat balance isn’t quite right. One adjustment being explored is scaling Scout Ornithopter speed and mobility depending on loadouts.
But don’t expect instant changes, Funcom is still reviewing gameplay trends before rolling out any significant updates.
